IN BETWEEN BREATHS

Been trying to catch my breath.

Every time I attempted to put pen to paper about the horrific events unfolding in the world, another hideous event would happen. From terror attacks to the evil murders of unarmed African Americans by those called to protect and serve; to the catastrophic retaliations. I believe we are living in the last days.

You know it’s funny (not funny) that “these are the last days”, is a phrase often said during trying times. Thousands upon thousands of years ago, Jesus’ disciples wanted to know when the end was coming and in Matthew 24 of the Holy Bible, a teaching moment by Adonai was seized. There’s nothing new under the sun and yet we are seeing things we thought we’d never see.

In between these treasured breaths we’re gifted with, its easy to be discouraged and hard to stay positive. Breathing is vital but taking a moment to breathe is necessary. I implore you to breathe. In between breaths I pray that you’re not only strengthened, I pray you’re alert enough to notice those who are not breathing around you; those having a hard time coping.

While it’s an extremely liberating “aha moment” to realize everyone is not assigned to your caseload, Love invites us to be attentive to others. Perhaps you may feel that you’re barely functioning and you have nothing to offer anyone else. Maybe you’ve just learned the value of self care and don’t feel strong enough yet to help others. I get it, but admonish you as you watch as well as pray during this hour, to look out for others too.

If you or a loved one are suicidal, in crisis or having a hard time coping, PLEASE know that you matter and are not alone! If you need someone to talk to, don’t be afraid to reach out.
