WORD ON THE STREET IS… “You Don’t Look Like What You’ve Been Through”

Dear Beloved,

I didn’t mean to startle you when I walked in on you adjusting your clothes. The way you stared into the mirror was so intense, it made me feel like you were looking for something long gone. Just wanted you to know that the word on the street is, “you don’t look like what you’ve been through“.

I remember when we were younger and we used to go for walks, there was always that one block we’d pick up the pace on. It was as though if we lingered, everyone’s secrets would collide in midair. Unspoken yet grabbing at our ankles. Attempting to impede our stride and interrupt our progress. It never showed on your face, it still doesn’t.

You don’t look like what you’ve been through. Everyone is not laughing at you, and the voices that continue to fight for the right to drown you, are all lying. I see strength, survival and hope every time I look at you. So next time you’re in the mirror, I pray you not only find what you’re looking for, I hope you see what we’ve all been admiring.

Loving you deliberately,
e
